Like many people I came to Pilates through having back pain
due to poor posture, a lack of exercise and a back injury. At 33 years old I
was sceptical of how this exercise which seem to involve a lot of lying on
the floor would improve my problems. Now nearly seven years on my body looks
a whole lot different and feels a whole lot different. Thanks to the Pilates
Method I have more energy, have had no bouts of illness and am stronger both
physically and mentally then ever before.
This difference led me to
give up my career and train as a Pilates Instructor. I wanted to study both a
more contemporary system which approached Pilates using scientific research
in back pain and also the Classical Pilates approach of teaching a
system of exercises. This training which has taken over three years has
enabled me to work with people of all abilities and issues and to find ways
to modify movements to help them improve. I also learnt early on that
Pilates is so much more than a mat class once a week and that a Pilates
teacher is not made in a weekend. To really understand the system takes
years of learning and working on both your own body and with clients. A true
Pilates teacher will have studied the whole Classical Pilates system of
machines and mat to understand this integrated approach to realigning and
strengthening the body.
Despite countless hours of education and exams my passion for Pilates only
increases as I witness the remarkable changes it brings about in my clients.
I sincerely hope that whether you join us for classes or in the studio I can
also inspire you with a lifelong passion for this wonderful technique.
